I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of New Haven. With a background in psychology, education, and community advocacy, I bring a holistic and creative perspective to working with individuals and families. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and I am deeply committed to providing culturally responsive and compassionate care.
My work in mental health began as a Peer Bridger with the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, where I supported individuals transitioning from psychiatric hospitalization back into community life. In that role, I provided crisis intervention, recovery planning, and peer support. I learned how to engage people who often feel overlooked or misunderstood, building trust through empathy, patience, and respect.
I later served as a Recovery Support Specialist with Clifford Beers in New Haven, working with children, families, and individuals affected by trauma and substance use. There, I conducted assessments, connected families with community resources, and helped clients develop recovery plans grounded in dignity and self-determination. These experiences strengthened my commitment to trauma-informed and culturally attuned care.
Alongside my work in mental health, I am also an educator and artist. I currently teach art to more than 500 elementary and middle school students in Bridgeport, where my classroom integrates mindfulness, journaling, and creative expression. I believe that art can be a powerful pathway to resilience, helping young people develop confidence, emotional awareness, and a sense of agency.
My academic and personal interests include neuroaesthetics, the study of how art and design influence the brain and emotional well-being. I am particularly interested in how thoughtfully designed environments—such as classrooms, counseling spaces, and homes—can create a sense of safety, support emotional regulation, and promote mental wellness.
This vision reflects my broader mission: to support underserved communities, particularly mothers and minority families, by helping create spaces and opportunities that nurture growth, empowerment, and healing.
Outside of my professional and academic work, I enjoy painting, reading, researching, and working on creative DIY projects that reflect my love of design and the built environment. Above all, I cherish time with my three children, who continually inspire my commitment to creating lives and spaces filled with peace, creativity, and connection.
